Prewett’s Traditional Oatmeal Porridge

Traditional Oatmeal Porridge

Make your very own Prewett’s Traditional Oatmeal Porridge with this simple recipe.


  • (Ingredients for single serving)
  • 2oz (50g) coarse oatmeal
  • 6fl oz(150ml) skimmed milk
  • 5floz (125ml) water
  • pinch of salt – optional
  • 1 tsp (5ml) light olive oil
  • brown sugar or honey to serve


Put ingredients into a saucepan, stir while gradually bringing to the boil. Simmer and stir on a low heat for 5-10 mins. Cover and cool overnight. Before serving, warm over a low heat for about 5 mins. Serve with sugar or honey to taste. Delicious with cream or yoghurt.

(Enough to top 450g (1lb) fruit eg apples, plums - prepared and sweetened) 100g (4oz) Self Raising flour, sifted 75g (3oz) butter or hard margarine or vegetable fat 75g (3oz) Prewetts Coarse Oatmeal 50g (2oz) demerara sugar Rub butter or margarine into the flour, stir in oatmeal and sugar. Spread evenly over the fruit and bake in a moderate oven for 20 – 30 minutes until crumble is firm and golden and the fruit cooked. Serve warm.
